Anointing of the Sick Anointing of the Sick used to be called Extreme Unction or the sacrament of the dying. This sacrament now is an anointing and a blessing which offers the grace to overcome frailties and the strength, peace and courage to overcome the difficulties of serious illnesses. As in the other sacraments we are united with the community by prayer and support. Please call the parish office early in the illness so that the sick person may be able to take a full, conscious role in the celebration of this sacrament.
