Matrimony unites a man and a woman Sacramentally. This sacrament gives spouses the grace to love each other and provide for the generation and education of children.

According to the Council of Trent on marriage: “The grace of the sacrament perfects the human love of the spouses, strengthens the indissoluble unity, and sanctifies them on the way to eternal life”.

In the book of Genesis we learn of God’s plan for a man and woman who choose to enter into marriage: “…a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body.” (Gn 23:24) The bond of marriage supersedes blood relationship to our own mother, father, brothers, and sisters. When a couple commits to Marriage they create a union that is stronger than any blood relationship and a new family is formed. The couple chooses to bind themselves together exclusively for life, for their mutual benefit, for the raising of any children born from their union, and for the building up of the Christian community.

Marriage Preparation

Six months prior to the wedding date an appointment should be made by the bride and groom with one of our priests or deacons to go over wedding procedures, including an Engaged Encounter weekend.
